Ai Si Xi, the innkeeper who firmly believes in staying single, finds herself embroiled in an absurd lawsuit that labels her as a "single exemplar" targeted by the authorities. Grateful for her past kindness, Jing Kan is compelled to marry Ai Si Xi to help her out of her predicament.
Initially thinking they could go their separate ways after marriage, the "little couple" instead get caught up in the power struggles of the Jing family, a prominent local tea-producing household. Under the roof of the Jing family, every member is peculiar in their own way: the outwardly serene but sharp-minded grandmother Wei Jun Yi, the power-hungry and ruthless stepmother Luo Xu Si, the self-important and pampered eldest sister Jing Zhen Zhu the vain and two-faced maidservant Lv Jiao, the arrogant and unruly younger brother Luo A Ji, and the submissive and crafty son-in-law Lin Dong Lin.
Facing constant challenges, Ai Si Xi and Jing Kan use all their wits to navigate through the difficulties. Just when they are on the verge of giving up, they begin to discover the true meaning of "family" in the midst of the chaos within the Jing household.
